About Us
The work of Sidhu-Kanhu Alpasankhyak Vikas Samitee is concentrated mainly in Adivasi and poor districts of Santhal Parganas, the division of Jharkhand state.
We aspire to work with all the poor and marginalized people of Jharkhand through direct outreach and in collaboration with other non-government organizations. We aim to reach 20% of the population in the Gram Panchayats where we worked before.

Our Activities
Watershed Concept
Watershed is a geographical-hydrological unit drawing to a particular outlet. A watershed is made up of number of community components, processes and physical, economical and social ingredients.
Sustainable Agriculture
In the agriculture sector focus has been on improving the yield of paddy, pulses and oilseeds. In 24 hectares, improved variety of paddy was sown using the SRI technique and farmers were trained in the SRI method of paddy cultivation.
Livelihood and Food Security
Sustainability is the hallmark value underpinning Sidhu Kanhu Alpsankhyak Vikas Samitee approach to enable communities to enhance food security by managing their natural resources. This value demonstrates a commitment to the sustainability of the environment and to the livelihoods of those who inhabit it.
Green Belt Development
We are continuing the Green Belt Development Program at MPL (Maithon Power Limited), Maithon, Nirsha, Dhanbad for the last 6 years. There we have planted several indigenous varieties of non-timber forest plants.
Education & Human Resource Development
Sidhu-Kanhu Alpsankhyak Vikas Samitee education program, particularly in relation to equity, sustainability and cost-sharing. These values have led to the creation of a two-pronged approach to education.
Community Health Management and Development
Mother and child healthcare comprises a core component of community health care work with a focus on training health workers and members of the community to identify and ensure antenatal and postnatal care.
Mission
The mission of Sidhu-Kanhu Alpasankhyak Vikas Samitee is realized through the program and process of Social Activities based on mutual Harmony. We are here to involve people on a large scale and S.K.A.V.S. will be helpful in transfer of knowledge, skills, and resources.
Vision
With the goodwill and work, S.K.A.V.S. wants to reach to every corner to provide help. We want to concentrate on five to seven years in each village. The facilitator role involves working with a network of small and medium non-government and community-based organizations, which mobilize communities and engage in direct field action.
Our Venture
Core values that drive this process are Social and Gender Equity and Sustainability. Institutional and methodological features aligned with these core values are as follows:
Social Equity
Representation of all sections of the community in decision-making processes across caste, class, religion and other societal barriers.
Gender Equity
Equal representation and participation of men and women in community-level decision-making and control. Women partake alongside men in articulating concerns, take responsibility and actively participate in development processes for both family and society.
Sustainability
Development processes are based on sound environmental values and necessarily have built-in institutional and financial mechanisms to sustain beyond the life of the project. S.K.A.V.S.’ responses are context-specific, based on the needs and priorities of the communities we engage with. Given the diverse social and economic situation of the communities, the relative importance of the sectors varies across regions and communities. The interventions are based on a combination of the following areas:

Our Activities
Community Empowerment Program
Mobilizing women members to form self-help groups has been a strategy to engage with women and work on the economic and social empowerment of women in the villages.
Mobilization of Rural Areas
S.K.A.V.S. lays emphasis on the building of community infrastructure required for agriculture, social forestry, education, community organization, etc. through collective initiatives.
Natural Resource Management Program
S.K.A.V.S. in enhancing the quality of life and improving environmental resistance to drought through effective land, water and forest management practices.
Women Empowerment
Microcredit activities through the formation of self-help groups (SHG) work as a vehicle for economic and social empowerment of tribal women.
