Green Belt Development
We are continuing the Green Belt Development Program at MPL (Maithon Power Limited), Maithon, Nirsha, Dhanbad for the last 6 years. There we have planted several indigenous varities of non-timber forest plants. This effort will bring back the natural heritage and re-establishes the natural flora & fauna. Awareness generation program in the local area is organized to explain about the essentiality of plantation or forestation. Though the main objective is to control pollution caused by the thermal power yet we have planted several flowering & fruit trees to establish the natural biodiversity in the area.
In the women empowerment & income generation activities, we have trained local women for making crafts of bamboo, straw & jute.
We have provided a resource person to train them & raw materials also. We have also purchased their all finished goods for a certain time as their marketing support. These activities somehow generate income in those poor families.
We have developed several ornamental & seasonal flowering plant gardens with decorative gymnosperm, palm tree, hedge & carpet grass for beautification in between stone & concrete structure. Various types of plantation create an eye soothing environment in the factory premises.
Every year we celebrate ‘World Environment Day’ at MPL with all of our workers, other company staff and MPL officers & workers. We have celebrated the Governor’s arrival with tree plantation at MPL premises
